My World

Killing Me Softly.. A Murder Of Raven!

Well, not literally 'Killing me' or violently doing me in so much as... wiping out my old online presence.

Heres an interesting fact... a Murder of Ravens is the collective term for a group of crows basically.  I fancy myself as a bit of a poet, philosopher and fan of the English language soo.. i am taking a bit of dramatic licence with the title.

Anyway, i have previously been known online by several 'nicks' (nicknames), usually some derivation of 'Raven'.  This nick is simply a reference to a favourite poem of mine - The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.  It all started with creating a nick to join an online gaming crew called TOG.. The Older Gamers

I was introduced to TOG by a colleague at my then work place.. his nick was Redneck and he introduced me and another friend to this online gaming community through the game 'Battlefield: Vietnam', a game we got to love.  My other friend called himself 'Subzero' and i was struggling to find a nick that suited me.  I was, at the time considering purchasing a graphics card with the brand name Radeon and while walking along one day with my good mate, I came upon the name Raven and it is a name i stuck to.  I became TOG|Raven and joined the online community.. ended up with many thousands of posts over a number of years in their forums to my name.. mostly silly posts but some more serious!! I was never a great gamer but i liked to talk, that hasnt changed much!

From TOG|Raven i really entered the online world, as a single guy at the time i spent a lot of time playing with the name.  For example, i was known as 'RavenLooney' on a Big Day Out forum, that only lasted for a short time though.  Another friend of mine was big into music and we discussed many times joining this forum but thats all we did, discuss it, this went on for ages, so i finally joined and began posting. He saw my posts and soon realised it was me and then he joined... funny that?! :)

I think at one stage i had a LiveJournal, but couldnt keep it up!  I even entered, at one time, a restaurant/takeaway review site and began posting reviews of places i had been to.  These are just some of the silly things that i did while sitting at my computer.. hopefully i dont look back at this blog in years to come and add it to my list of silly things.  Lets see, maybe if i can gain some followers, it will inspire me to write more.. or is that rant more?!

Now, the murder of raven, comes in the form of closing in on Forty (sure to be an OMG WTF moment for me) and gaining a fiance along the way.  I now have a loving partner who, in quite a few ways, is a complete opposite but somehow we work together.  It seems that for a couple of years now, things have really changed.  Where once i had my own Facebook profile, WE now have a joint profile.  I never had a Twitter account before or Google+ but now WE have a joint account in both of these and a definite Twitter presence.  This goes along, of course, with the joint email address that we share.  I'm not complaining, it is just interesting to me how two has become one.  She is indeed my better half, my queen and the love of my life, so there!

I still maintain some individuality, I describe myself as a proud Aussie, an Atheist, a Republican and more Labor than Liberal.  My partner, on the other hand, is a proud Filipina, a Catholic, a Monarchist who is more Liberal than Labor.  We met at Uni, both doing a Masters but it took us to the end of our course to really get together.  Ah yes, we are indeed a couple of opposites who attracted which is what our Facebook profile says about us... tis a match made in... well?!!  The profile states also the fact that we moved from the big smoke ie BrisVegas, Brissie, Brisneyland or Brisbane to the bush i.e central western Queensland for jobs.. We're livin' large here in Longreach - the home of QANTAS Founders Museum and the Australian Stockmens Hall Of Fame.  If the dust and the flies dont get ya, the roos and the roads here certainly will!

Well, thanks for reading, i sure hope you stay tuned as i'm sure i'll be back... I have a heap of ideas for future blog posts such as 'Longreach - the likes and dislikes of living here', 'How the grass is always greener on the other side', 'Movies that moved me', 'TV shows me' and much much more.. I'm sure some of these will be of interest. Not a case of Nevermore, i can assure you!
