Honestly, I had been hearing about this 'Netflix' for a while but didn't take much notice. Guess I must have thought it to be one of those illegal download sites
or some really expensive service. I had heard some mixed reviews about it and didn't bother, having only free-to-air viewing and a limited dvd collection. Then my loving partner got an account and showed me all the tv shows and movies that I could watch. Having
found myself with time on my hands lately and more download ability than i've had for a long time, I have ventured into the multitude of tv series, movies, documentaries that Netflix has
on offer to peruse and view at leisure.
This probably explains my absence from blogging for a bit, the following is a rundown of the programs I've been watching recently. Now, i dont really
know the cost of an account as I am a guest on the account but i cant imagine it would be anywhere near the hire fees of a constant stream of dvds or even buying dvds. Netflix certainly has a big variety of programs ready to view,
mainly American productions but there are a few Independent, International, Australian and British series' to watch as well. The first question was:
What was I keen to catch up on??
Well, there was 'Arrow' and 'Homeland', though neither
is quite as up-to-date as I would like considering that their now advertising a new series of Homeland on free-to-air. Both shows I had seen a fair chunk of the first seasons but knew there were bits I missed so it was interesting to watch them again over
the course of a couple of days. That's right, in a couple of days of going through each episode in the season, no annoying ads just full episodes on demand and I can pause at any time.
Also, I had heard that there was an Israeli production which formed the basis of Homeland and this too is on Netflix. It is called 'Prisoners of War'...
Another show that I was interested in seeing, had seen a couple of episodes but always seem to be missing the timeslot on free-to-air was 'The Blacklist' and just
as i'd finished watching the first season on Netflix they released the second season so I promptly watched that as well. I have just seen the ads for the next season of this show on free-to-air and i'm pretty keen to catch that.
An original Netflix series of 'Scream' from the movie trilogy of the same name, not quite as gripping as the original with different characters
to the trilogy. Still, many good references to nineties teen horror/slasher flicks.
Then there were my British interests, such as 'Luther' and 'Black Mirror'. Sometimes I find myself doing google searches afterwards to find out if there is more seasons to come. Black Mirror was a series that I had read
about in 'Philosophy Now' magazine but had never seen it advertised before.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a few Aussie television series on Netflix as well. Series that I have
now caught up with are 'Rake', 'Crownies', 'Janet King', 'Small-time Gangster' and 'The Time of our Lives'. Plus, I found a mini-series called 'Better Man'.
That's it for My List at present apart from the documentaries which i've watched and the odd movie. One movie that I was particularly after and have
now viewed is 'Django Unchained', I must say another excellent Quentin Tarantino production this time starring Jamie Foxx.
The documentaries and series of talks that I have found interesting are 'Cowspiracy', 'The Unbelievers', 'Rise of the Drones', 'Dirty Wars' 'Hot Girls Wanted' and 'Atari: Game Over'. Yes, conspiracy theories, atheism lectures, animal activism and technology feature highly. There is much more to watch, these are just the ones i've caught so far...
Now, some series that I would like to see are 'Supernatural' and 'Prison Break' however they have quite a few seasons
up on Netflix and many episodes each season, it's almost like I dont want to commit to that amount of time. Both of these shows I have seen several episodes but do not know where they fit or in which season. I guess you can see my dilemma?!!
Some of the shows I would like to see listed on Netflix though I guess it depends on which network these come from. Of course there could be too many seasons and too many episodes for me to watch in a couple
of sittings so I shall not wish too much. The following list is not complete but here goes:
Law and Order: SVU
So, thanks Netflix for filling my time with all this, it has been great
to get somewhat up-to-date. Of course, after watching a number of episodes in a row in the course of a day means that one must have a break here and there and do other things like household duties. Stay tuned for my next post which may well be about
my crazy sojourn into one of these household duties i.e. gardening...
